Types of Physiotherapy II

Education
Education is something which is always associated with all forms of physical therapy and helps in:
• Protecting the joints
• Performing exercises at home which are designed specially for your type of injury.
• Executing the day to day functions normally and safely.
• Avoiding injury to the area which was previously injured.
• Using devices like wheelchairs.
• Help in making the home safer

Specialized Treatments
Other than the described methods, certain physical therapists also make use of some specialized treatments like:

  • Wounds. Severe wounds do not heal easily and even later on, they tend to be present. This happens generally because of the poor flow of blood around that area and therefore it requires extensive care. Bandaging and special cleaning may also be required. In some cases, treatment methods like electrical stimulation, hydrotherapy and oxygen treatment are also practiced.
  • Vestibular rehabilitation. This form of rehabilitation helps the inner ear to respond to the body changes. When a person is having problems with the vertigo, then vestibular rehabilitation is very useful. It is also helpful for patients who feel as if the surroundings are tilting and spinning on their own. Vestibular rehabilitation helps in making your body get used to the problem so that you are aware and know when to expect that problem and adapt accordingly to prevent it.
  • Cancer care or Oncology is used to help those patients who experience problems with their movement because of the treatment methods for cancer.
  • Physiotherapy is also used in improving the health of women and advocates various exercises for decreasing pelvic pain and controlling of urinary incontinence.

Cold and Ice
Cold and ice packs are also used in physical therapy to help in relieving the pain and swelling from diseases and injuries, and disorders like arthritis. These ice packs can be applied to 20 minutes and sometimes it can be used for several times in a day.
